GOA FAMILIA
Goa Familia was conceived in 2019 as an evolving archive exploring and documenting the multidimensional aspects of family histories. Over the period of a year, the compilation has grown substantially, through the participation and contribution of families across Goa. While the primary archive consists of digitised photographs from family albums, the documentation also extends to video and audio recordings of individuals sharing stories from personal memory as well as collective histories. As a next step in the ongoing project, Goa Familia will now begin to share selected archives on a dedicated web-platform.
Goa Familia attempts to locate collections relevant to the representation of Goa’s past. These collections include colonial archives and personal collections, images made in a professional context that could range from photojournalism to anthropology, the contents of shoeboxes tucked away in lofts, private albums, and photographs made by Goan and non-Goans professionals and amateurs, based in Goa or anywhere in the world, with a Goan connection.

Lina Vincent is an independent art historian and curator with two decades experience in arts management. She is committed to socially engaged practices that reflect in multidisciplinary projects she has developed and participated in. The focus areas of her research extend to projects with arts education, printmaking history and practice, the documentation of living traditions and vernacular arts, and environmental consciousness in the arts. She recently concluded an Archival Museum Fellowship through India Foundation for the Arts for Goa Chitra Museum. She initiated and headed the Piramal Residency Artist Incubator Programme 2019-20. Selected curatorial projects in the last five years include ‘GOOD FOOD India’ -international arts program for climate-change awareness (2017-18); Story of Space – multidisciplinary public arts program, Goa (2017); ‘Tabiyat: Medicine and Healing in India’ CSMVS Mumbai (2016-17). She has curated numerous exhibitions with galleries across India and continues to contribute to publications on art history and contemporary cultural practices.
Creative Collaborator
Akshay Mahajan is a photographer, curator and writer. His work comprises of self-initiated research projects that combine his interest in myth, folklore and photography as a mirror to culture and collective memory. Akshay’s engagement with the visual arts also takes shape through writing, teaching and curation. In 2008, he co-founded Blindboys.org, an open collective aimed at reclaiming public spaces – both online and offline – to showcase photography. Akshay Mahajan was a member of the photo editorial of PIX Quarterly, a contemporary photography publication looking at South Asia. He has curated shows at the Format Festival, Angkor Photo Festival, Goa Photo and JaipurPhoto among others.
Project Associate
Nishant Saldanha’s work aims to operate outside the confines of set practices to create new forms with which to experience images and includes working with photography and writing, independent comics and bookmaking. He studied art and design at Central Saint Martins, London before moving to California Institute Of The Arts in Los Angeles, where he majored in filmmaking. After working in the animation industry and being part of the independent comics community in America, he moved back to his ancestral land, Goa to pursue an art practice of his own.

Manashri Pai Dukle is a Goa based artist, interior stylist, art historian and art writer. She has completed her B.F.A (Painting) from Goa College of Art, Diploma in Interior Design from INIFD, Pune and M.V.A (Art History) from College of Fine Arts, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath. She has worked as a guest faculty (Aesthetics and Philosophy of Art) at MIT-ADT, Pune and is currently running art workshops and programmes under ‘Art_Curry_ink, Goa along with continuing her research on Feminism and Art History.
